Crunchy Roasted Black Beans – The Perfect Snack!

Choosing Your Beans
I use a can larger than the standard 15-ounce size. Given that Bush's Black Beans come in various sizes, the 26.5-ounce can is size is perfect forthis snack since the beans shrink as they are roasted. You can use less if you'd like.

Seasoning Options
While classic spices are always a hit, pre-packaged seasoning mixes can add a fun twist with minimal effort. Here are some flavorful options to consider:
Taco Seasoning: Adds a zesty, Mexican-inspired kick.
Ranch Dressing Mix: Offers a tangy, herby flavor.
Onion Soup Mix: Provides a deep, savory taste.
Important note, I only use about 1/2 the packet when I use the seasoning packets but you might like more flavor. Feel free to get creative and mix different seasonings to find your perfect blend!

Ensuring Maximum Crunch Achieving that satisfying crunch is key, not just for texture but also for proper storage. Here are some tips to ensure your beans come out crispy:
Thorough Drying: After rinsing, pat the beans completely dry. Any residual moisture can lead to steaming instead of roasting.
Even Spreading: Lay the beans out in a single layer on your baking sheet to promote uniform crisping.
Extended Roasting: If the beans aren't as crunchy as you'd like after the initial roasting time, continue baking in 5-minute increments, checking frequently to prevent burning.
Proper storage keeps your roasted beans crunchy and delicious. Once they've cooled completely, transfer them to a glass food storage container. Stored this way on your countertop, they should stay crisp for up to 5 days.

Trying Other Beans
This roasting method works well with various canned beans. Here are some to try:
Chickpeas (Garbanzo Beans): Roast up beautifully for a nutty, crunchy snack.
Pinto Beans: Offer a slightly softer texture but take on flavors well.
Navy Beans: Small and tender, they crisp up nicely.
Kidney Beans: Larger in size, providing a hearty crunch.
Each type brings its unique flavor and texture, so feel free to experiment and find your favorite!
Enjoy your roasting adventure, and don't hesitate to share any new seasoning combos you discover!
A glass bowl filled with crunchy roasted black beans on a beautifully decorated kitchen counter with pink flowers and wooden utensils.

Ingredients:
1 26.5-ounce can of black beans (drained, rinsed, and dried)
1-2 tbsp olive or avocado oil
Seasonings of your choice (get creative!):
Classic: Salt, garlic powder, smoked paprika
Packaged Mixes: Taco seasoning, ranch dressing mix, onion soup mix
Spicy: Chili powder, cayenne pepper

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
Drain, rinse, and dry the black beans thoroughly. (Pat them with a towel to remove all moisture—this helps them get crispy.)
Toss the beans in a bowl with oil and your chosen seasonings.
Mix well.
Spread them out on a baking sheet in a single layer. Don’t overcrowd!
Roast for 25-35 minutes, shaking the pan every 10 minutes.
If they’re not crunchy enough, keep roasting in 5-minute increments.
Let them cool completely before eating—this is when they crisp up the most!

How to Store Roasted Black Beans
Once completely cooled, store them in a glass food storage container on the countertop. For best results, leave the lid slightly open or use a container with a loose-fitting lid to prevent moisture buildup. They should stay crunchy for about 5 days—though mine never last that long!
