Teaching my dog to communicate using buttons is something I’ve been deeply involved with since before it became an organized movement. Over the last several years, I’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds, if not thousands, of people connect with their pets on a deeper level by teaching them to communicate with AIC buttons. I’ve spent countless hours in private messages, social media comments, and direct conversations, sharing what I’ve learned and helping others navigate their own journeys.
My book, Button Up, is a culmination of everything I’ve learned from my daily life with my AIC communicator and all of those experiences. It’s designed for anyone looking to start teaching their pet, covering all the steps to take even before the buttons arrive. From teaching your learner words and concepts to setting them up for success when you finally start using buttons—this book walks you through it all. It’s perfect for people just getting started or those who have buttons but haven’t yet seen their learner press them. If you’re curious about this incredible form of communication, Button Up is a great guide to begin with.
In addition to the book, I’ve created the AIC Button Learner Daily Planner, which is a game-changer for tracking progress. It helps you keep track of the words you’re teaching, make notes on your learner’s button use, and organize what you want to work on next. For example, I was able to figure out that Pharaby had assigned her own meaning to the word "Dinah" by tracking her usage, and it’s those little details that can make all the difference!
