Here’s a list of simple stretches you can do with your dog to improve their flexibility and overall health.
Key Stretches:
- Front Leg Stretch: Gently lift your dog’s front leg and guide it forward. Hold for a few seconds, then release.
- Hind Leg Stretch: Lift a hind leg, guiding it backward in a straight line. Hold briefly before releasing.
- Back Stretch (Bow Pose): Encourage your dog to stretch their back by guiding them into a playful bow position using a treat.
- Neck Stretch: Use a treat to guide your dog’s nose toward their shoulder, stretching the neck.
- Side Stretch: While your dog is standing, use a treat to lure their head toward their side, creating a gentle side stretch.
Incorporate these stretches into your dog’s daily routine for better flexibility and health. Track your dog’s progress and more with our Dog Mom Planner.
Disclaimer: I’m not a veterinarian—everything I share is based on my personal experience with my dog, Pharaby.
It’s important to consult with your vet before starting any new activities or exercises with your dog, including stretching.
We practice cooperative care, meaning that all the stretches and exercises I do with Pharaby are done with her full permission and cooperation. It’s essential that your dog is comfortable and willing to participate.
If your dog isn’t ready or doesn’t want to stretch, that’s completely okay! Respect their choice to opt out, and focus on building trust and comfort first. Every dog is different, and what works for one may not work for another, so always go at your dog’s pace and ensure they’re happy and comfortable with the process.
